This is an amazing resource for local plant identification! We use the advanced search tool regularly. “Over 1,700 plant species and more than 16,000 high quality photos are cataloged here, with more added each week, working towards recording all 2100+ plant species in Minnesota.”

prairie moon nursery
Prairie Moon Nursery is a plant and seed producer which offers over 700 species native to the upper Midwest and Northeast. They are also a great resource for information on prairies and conservation. If you are interested in doing the work yourself, we would recommend reading their PDF we have linked below.
Good oak ecological services
The link below is to a fabulous post written by Good Oak. It is an overview of both the history of our woodlands of the Midwest and the appropriate solutions for managing/restoring them back to a healthy ecosystem. Good Oak Ecological Services provides sustainable landscaping and ecological restoration in southern Wisconsin.
Stephen thomforde
Stephen Thomforde is a local MN restoration ecologist and researcher. He looks at our local ecology in a critical but optimistic way, and we have found some of his talks to be extremely influential. These two presentations are from the 2021 Best Practices for Pollinator Summit.
Robert Gegear
Dr. Robert Gegear founded the Beecology Project, which uses citizen science to collect much-needed ecological data on native pollinator species and pollinator habitat. His presentation, More than Just the Buzz: Finding Real Solutions to Native Pollinator Declines talks about creating landscapes that truly support pollinator biodiversity.
